Week Eleven: How to Live
“And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. — Deuteronomy 6:6-7
God never intended His Word to live only on pages written in ink or in sermons spoken from pulpits, but was meant to live in people. In Deuteronomy 6, the command begins with the heart before it ever reaches the home and in the home before it ever impacts the community. God’s truth must first be in us before it can flow through us.
Notice how ordinary the setting is. Teaching God’s Word isn’t confined to formal moments or scheduled lessons. It happens while sitting at home, walking along the way, lying down at night, and rising in the morning. In other words, faith is passed on through proximity and consistency. Children don’t just learn what we say about God—they absorb what we live.
This passage reminds us that spiritual formation is less about perfection and more about presence. It’s not about having all the answers, but about weaving God’s truth into everyday life—into conversations, decisions, and reactions. When God’s Word shapes our hearts, it naturally shapes our homes.
The greatest influence we have is not in grand gestures, but in faithful repetition. A life anchored in God’s truth quietly teaches the next generation where real wisdom, security, and hope are found.
