Week Twenty-Six: Intimacy With God
For I desire mercy and not sacrifice, And the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.” — Hosea 6:6
God is not impressed by empty religious activity when the heart is far from Him. Yes, it is possible to go through spiritual routines while lacking compassion, humility, and genuine love for the Lord. God has always been after something deeper than outward performance—He made us for relationship!
This verse speaks powerfully to us today. We can become busy with church activity, serving, giving, or appearances, yet neglect kindness toward others and intimacy with God. The Lord values a softened heart more than outward service or rituals. He wants truth in the inward parts, mercy toward people, and a sincere desire to know Him personally.
Ask yourself today: am I just doing things for God, or am I walking with God? Spend time with Him, bathe in His mercy, and then splash out that same mercy to others. When love for God fills our heart our hearts, then obedience becomes joyful rather than burdensome.
