THE RIGHT THING

A new year stretches out before us, and already many resolutions are fading. We are quick to look for a cure-all—a new habit, a new expert, a new promise that will finally fix what feels broken inside. That search leaves us vulnerable, because the problem runs far deeper than motivation or discipline.
At the foundation of life are only two worldviews: either we were created by an intelligent God, or we are the product of chance—an accidental collision of molecules. But chance cannot explain meaning! Molecules do not wonder why they exist—people do. And when life feels meaningless, anxiety and depression rush in. We see it everywhere in our generation.
Many of us pushed through the holidays with smiles, even while family division, cultural tension, and political strain made “home for the holidays” far heavier than we imagined. Sentiment carried us for a season—but sentiment cannot sustain us.
What has always set the Bible apart is not only its historical reliability, but its moral beauty. It calls us to love, serve, forgive, and care for others—while confronting our selfishness, pride, and greed. Then comes Jesus, the center of it all. Born humbly, choosing ordinary people, living unlike any leader before Him, and finally laying down His life for us. Even as He was crucified, He prayed, “Father, forgive them.”
Our nation once revered God’s truth, yet today we are more divided than ever. History shows that the people who changed the world were never focused on themselves.
Today, the right thing is to say this clearly: forgiveness and redemption are found in one place—the cross of Jesus Christ. There, perfect justice and perfect mercy met. He bore our sin so that all who believe may be forgiven, restored, and welcomed as children of God!
